Redefining the meanings of words.

My newest topic will be simple, I will point out how LDS redefine the meanings to words to fit their belief.

The Bible teaches us, God is eternal, from the beginning, without end.

Here is the dictionary definition for Eternal:

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source
e·ter·nal /ɪˈtɜrnl/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[i-tur-nl] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective
1. without beginning or end; lasting forever; always existing (opposed to temporal): eternal life.
2. perpetual; ceaseless; endless: eternal quarreling; eternal chatter.
3. enduring; immutable: eternal principles.
4. Metaphysics. existing outside all relations of time; not subject to change.
–noun
5. something that is eternal.
6. the Eternal, God.

The Bible and Book of Mormon are full of Verses that teach God is Eternal. I pointed this one out because, the LDS teach God was once a man like we are. How can God be eternal, yet once a human that was first created?

Another verse they redefine is Everlasting.

Matthew 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Here is what the Dictionary teaches.
ev·er·last·ing /ˌɛvərˈlæstɪŋ, -ˈlɑstɪŋ/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[ev-er-las-ting, -lah-sting] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation

4. wearisome; tedious: She tired of his everlasting puns.
–noun
5. eternal duration; eternity: What is the span of one life compared with the everlasting?
6. the Everlasting, God.
7. any of various plants that retain their shape or color when dried, as certain composite plants of the genera Helichrysum, Gnaphalium, and Helipterum.
[Origin: 1300–50; ME; see ever, lasting

I point this one out because, the Bible teaches Hell and eternal damnation is forever, never ending, with out end, Even the BoM teaches this, yet Many LDS teach that people will be let out from hell and be able to repent of their sins, and that the hell and lake of Fire talked about in the book of revelation only last about 1,000 years.

Then to go along with everlasting, the Prophecy Given to Joseph Smith by God on polygamy was to be everlasting, yet this Everlasting command by God only lasted about 60 years. Read D and C 132.

1–6, Exaltation is gained through the new and everlasting covenant; 7–14, The terms and conditions of that covenant are set forth; 15–20, Celestial marriage and a continuation of the family unit enable men to become gods; 21–25, The strait and narrow way that leads to eternal lives; 26–27, Law given relative to blasphemy against the Holy Ghost; 28–39, Promises of eternal increase and exaltation made to prophets and saints in all ages; 40–47, Joseph Smith is given the power to bind and seal on earth and in heaven; 48–50, The Lord seals upon him his exaltation; 51–57, Emma Smith is counseled to be faithful and true; 58–66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

1 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you my servant Joseph, that inasmuch as you have inquired of my hand to know and understand wherein I, the Lord, justified my servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as also Moses, David and Solomon, my servants, as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many wives and concubines—

2 Behold, and lo, I am the Lord thy God, and will answer thee as touching this matter.

3 Therefore, prepare thy heart to receive and obey the instructions which I am about to give unto you; for all those who have this law revealed unto them must obey the same.

4 For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.

5 For all who will have a blessing at my hands shall abide the law which was appointed for that blessing, and the conditions thereof, as were instituted from before the foundation of the world.

6 And as pertaining to the new and everlasting covenant, it was instituted for the fulness of my glory; and he that receiveth a fulness thereof must and shall abide the law, or he shall be damned, saith the Lord God.

I would suggest that when talking to LDS Make sure you know exactly what they mean. If you ask and they give you an answer, but your not sure, their are plenty of good resources to use out their to check if they are truthful. please feel free to write me with questions. Rick b

Another false prophecy.

Here is another FALSE PROPHECY given by Joseph Smith. This can be found in D and C section 84.

SECTION 84
1–5, The New Jerusalem and the temple shall be built in Missouri;

1 A revelation of Jesus Christ unto his servant Joseph Smith, Jun., and six elders, as they united their hearts and lifted their voices on high.

2 Yea, the word of the Lord concerning his church, established in the last days for the restoration of his people, as he has spoken by the mouth of his prophets, and for the gathering of his saints to stand upon Mount Zion, which shall be the city of New Jerusalem.

3 Which city shall be built, beginning at the temple lot, which is appointed by the finger of the Lord, in the western boundaries of the State of Missouri, and dedicated by the hand of Joseph Smith, Jun., and others with whom the Lord was well pleased.

4 Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which temple shall be reared in this generation.

5 For verily this generation shall not all pass away until an house shall be built unto the Lord, and a cloud shall rest upon it, which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which shall fill the house.

31 Therefore, as I said concerning the sons of Moses—for the sons of Moses and also the sons of Aaron shall offer an acceptable offering and sacrifice in the house of the Lord, which house shall be built unto the Lord in this generation, upon the consecrated spot as I have appointed

Now we read the 10th President/Prophet of the LDS church teaching this,
We may be justified in concluding that the expression in the aforementioned revelation, for verily this generation shall not all pass, has reference to those then living, not to a period of one hundred years. I firmly believe that there will be some of that generation who were living when this revelation was givin who shall be living when this temple is reared...I have full confidence in the word of the Lord and that it shall not fail. (way to perfection, pg 269-270 1931)

Now here are some problems that show Joseph Smith was/is a false Prophet. Nobody is alive today to see this take place, The place where the temple was to be built has not been built as of yet. Then to make matters worse, The LDS do not own the land so they cannot build even if they wanted to. Hebrews (6:18) tells us God cannot lie. So who lied, God or Joseph Smith?

Now we read in D and C 57:1-2

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, in Zion, Jackson County, Missouri, July 20, 1831. HC 1: 189–190. In compliance with the Lord’s command (Section 52), the elders had journeyed from Kirtland to Missouri with many varied experiences and some opposition. In contemplating the state of the Lamanites and the lack of civilization, refinement, and religion among the people generally, the Prophet exclaimed in yearning prayer: “When will the wilderness blossom as the rose? When will Zion be built up in her glory, and where will thy Temple stand, unto which all nations shall come in the last days?” Subsequently he received this revelation.
1–3, Independence, Missouri, is the place for the City of Zion and the temple; 4–7, The saints are to purchase lands and receive inheritances in that area;

1 Hearken, O ye elders of my church, saith the Lord your God, who have assembled yourselves together, according to my commandments, in this land, which is the land of Missouri, which is the land which I have appointed and consecrated for the gathering of the saints.

2 Wherefore, this is the land of promise, and the place for the city of Zion.

3 And thus saith the Lord your God, if you will receive wisdom here is wisdom. Behold, the place which is now called Independence is the center place; and a spot for the temple is lying westward, upon a lot which is not far from the courthouse.

Sadly this appears to be a lie also. The LDS were run out of Missouri.

D and C 62:6,9 says
6 Behold, I, the Lord, have brought you together that the promise might be fulfilled, that the faithful among you should be preserved and rejoice together in the land of Missouri. I, the Lord, promise the faithful and cannot lie.

9 Behold, the kingdom is yours. And behold, and lo, I am with the faithful always. Even so. Amen.

It says in D and C 62, that the Lord cannot Lie, his Promise is faithful and the Kingdom is your's, But that did not happen, so Did God Lie, or did Joseph Smith lie? You decide. Rick b

Joseph Smith and his false prophecies.

Joseph Smith claimed to be a true Prophet of God. Here is what Joseph F. Smith 10th prophet of the LDS church said and taught. Read pg 188 of Doctrine's of Salvation vol 1.

I quote Joseph F Smith. "CHURCH STANDS OR FALLS WITH JOSEPH SMITH. MORMONISM, as it is called, must stand or fall on the story of Joseph Smith. He was either a prophet of God, divinely called, properly appointed and commissioned, or he was one of the biggest frauds this world has ever seen. Their is no middle ground. If Joseph Smith was a deciver, who wilfully attempted to mislead the people, then he should be exposed: his claims should be rufuted, and his doctrines shown to be false".

My goal on this topic is to do exactly what the prophet said, and so I want to cover a few false prophecies made by Joseph Smith. First, lets see what the Bible says about false prophets.

Matthew 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Matthew 24:25 Behold, I have told you before.

Deuteronomy 18:19 And it shall come to pass, [that] whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require [it] of him.

Deuteronomy 18:20 But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.

Deuteronomy 18:21 And if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD hath not spoken?

Deuteronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that [is] the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, [but] the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Then the D and C teaches
37 Search these commandments, for they are true and faithful, and the prophecies and promises which are in them shall all be fulfilled.

38 What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.

39 For behold, and lo, the Lord is God, and the Spirit beareth record, and the record is true, and the truth abideth forever and ever. Amen.

First false prophecy is from D and C 114.

Revelation given through Joseph Smith the Prophet, at Far West, Missouri, April 17, 1838. HC 3: 23.
1–2, Church positions held by those who are not faithful shall be given to others.

1 Verily thus saith the Lord: It is wisdom in my servant David W. Patten, that he settle up all his business as soon as he possibly can, and make a disposition of his merchandise, that he may perform a mission unto me next spring, in company with others, even twelve including himself, to testify of my name and bear glad tidings unto all the world.

2 For verily thus saith the Lord, that inasmuch as there are those among you who deny my name, others shall be planted in their stead and receive their bishopric. Amen.

According to the revelation, the mission was to take place "next spring" which would give the prophecy a date somewhere around April or May of 1839.

Less than three months later, the "twelve" were given a specific date to leave (April 26, 1839) and one of the apostles, Thomas Marsh, was instructed to stay behind to "publish my word" (Doctrine and Covenants Section 118).

The date of April 26, 1839 came and as History of the Church, written by Joseph Smith, records, "The Brethren arrived at Far West, and proceeded to transact the business of their mission" (Vol. 3 p.336).

However, David W. Patten was not part of that mission. David Patten was not present because he had died in October of 1838.

History of the Church reports: "Captain Patten was carried some of the way in a litter, but it caused so much distress that he begged to be left by the way side...he died that night" (Vol. 3, p. 171).

Rather than going on a mission with the Twelve next spring, as Joseph Smith had prophesied in 1838, Patten died before the next year even came.

This could not be a reference to a "mission" in the spirit world after death because Joseph Smith was specific that he was to go "unto all the world" (not the "spirit" world) and he was to be with the other eleven (Doctrine and Covenants 114).

Some Mormons have suggested that David Patten could have apostatized from his calling. In other words God called him to go on the mission but because of sin or faithlessness he fell from the calling.

There are two problems with this explanation. The God of the Bible is all-knowing and He knew that Patten was going to die. Also, Patten did not fall away from the Church.

After Patten's death, Joseph Smith wrote, "Brother David Patten was a very worthy man, beloved by all good men who know him. He was one of the Twelve Apostles, and died as he had lived, a man of God, and strong in the faith of a glorious resurrection" (History of the Church, Vol. 3, p. 171).

More FALSE PROPHECIES to be covered in the weeks to come, Rick b
