Redefining the meanings of words.

My newest topic will be simple, I will point out how LDS redefine the meanings to words to fit their belief.

The Bible teaches us, God is eternal, from the beginning, without end.

Here is the dictionary definition for Eternal:

Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1) - Cite This Source
e·ter·nal /ɪˈtɜrnl/ Pronunciation Key - Show Spelled Pronunciation[i-tur-nl] Pronunciation Key - Show IPA Pronunciation
–adjective
1. without beginning or end; lasting forever; always existing (opposed to temporal): eternal life.
2. perpetual; ceaseless; endless: eternal quarreling; eternal chatter.
3. enduring; immutable: eternal principles.
4. Metaphysics. existing outside all relations of time; not subject to change.
–noun
5. something that is eternal.
6. the Eternal, God.

The Bible and Book of Mormon are full of Verses that teach God is Eternal. I pointed this one out because, the LDS teach God was once a man like we are. How can God be eternal, yet once a human that was first created?

Another verse they redefine is Everlasting.

Matthew 25:46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.

Here is what the Dictionary teaches.

4. wearisome; tedious: She tired of his everlasting puns.
–noun
5. eternal duration; eternity: What is the span of one life compared with the everlasting?

7. any of various plants that retain their shape or color when dried, as certain composite plants of the genera Helichrysum, Gnaphalium, and Helipterum.
[Origin: 1300–50; ME; see ever, lasting

I point this one out because, the Bible teaches Hell and eternal damnation is forever, never ending, with out end, Even the BoM teaches this, yet Many LDS teach that people will be let out from hell and be able to repent of their sins, and that the hell and lake of Fire talked about in the book of revelation only last about 1,000 years.

Then to go along with everlasting, the Prophecy Given to Joseph Smith by God on polygamy was to be everlasting, yet this Everlasting command by God only lasted about 60 years. Read D and C 132.

1–6, Exaltation is gained through the new and everlasting covenant; 7–14, The terms and conditions of that covenant are set forth; 15–20, Celestial marriage and a continuation of the family unit enable men to become gods; 21–25, The strait and narrow way that leads to eternal lives; 26–27, Law given relative to blasphemy against the Holy Ghost; 28–39, Promises of eternal increase and exaltation made to prophets and saints in all ages; 40–47, Joseph Smith is given the power to bind and seal on earth and in heaven; 48–50, The Lord seals upon him his exaltation; 51–57, Emma Smith is counseled to be faithful and true; 58–66, Laws governing the plurality of wives are set forth.

1 Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you my servant Joseph, that inasmuch as you have inquired of my hand to know and understand wherein I, the Lord, justified my servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as also Moses, David and Solomon, my servants, as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many wives and concubines—

2 Behold, and lo, I am the Lord thy God, and will answer thee as touching this matter.

3 Therefore, prepare thy heart to receive and obey the instructions which I am about to give unto you; for all those who have this law revealed unto them must obey the same.

4 For behold, I reveal unto you a new and an everlasting covenant; and if ye abide not that covenant, then are ye damned; for no one can reject this covenant and be permitted to enter into my glory.

5 For all who will have a blessing at my hands shall abide the law which was appointed for that blessing, and the conditions thereof, as were instituted from before the foundation of the world.

6 And as pertaining to the new and everlasting covenant, it was instituted for the fulness of my glory; and he that receiveth a fulness thereof must and shall abide the law, or he shall be damned, saith the Lord God.

I would suggest that when talking to LDS Make sure you know exactly what they mean. If you ask and they give you an answer, but your not sure, their are plenty of good resources to use out their to check if they are truthful. please feel free to write me with questions. Rick b

I remember listening to Martin and others from CRI mentioning how the LDS poured non-Biblical meanings into certain Biblical words. When a Christian is in dialogue with someone from the LDS or another false religious group, he/she needs to be aware of these 'word games'.

Cheers.
